The opening of Roger Ballens retrospective on February 21, 2013 at WestLicht was attended by numerous guests and fans of the artist who came from South Africa to be part of the opening.
In his words of introduction Peter Coeln was pointing out Ballens important role in Street Photography and Staged Photography. The curators Dr. Ulrich Pohlmann (Stadtmuseum München) and Rebekka Reuter (WestLicht) were referring to the complexity in his work. Roger Ballen himself was commenting his exhibition and the installation he made especially for the show at WestLicht. Following his speech he signed a great number of his excellent photobooks for fans and visitors.
