Franz Hubmann, the doyen of Austrian photo journalism has been documenting people, landscapes and culture for almost sixty years. As a style-influencing photographer and picture editor of the cultural magazine magnum from 1954 to 1962, he made an essential contribution to modern Austrian photography and influenced up-coming generations of photographers. This exhibition will show well-known works such as the legendary Hawelka Saga, artist portraits from Austria, Paris and Germany as well as travel photos. In addition, the Leica Exhibition presents, for the first time, pictures from the famous artists’ meeting place the Gutruf.
The retrospective for Franz Hubmann’s 90th birthday is a Westlicht Gallery and the Austrian Gallery of Photography/ Museum of Modern Art Salzburg joint project. The curator is Dr. Margit Zuckriegl, Head of the Austria Gallery of Photography.
